Founded in 2001, the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) is a 501 (c)(3) national nonprofit organization that unites finance, policy and technology to accelerate the transition to a renewable energy economy.

We are the focal point for collaborative advocacy across the renewable energy sector, supported by hundreds of members spanning renewable energy technologies and constituencies, including developers, manufacturers, top financial institutions, major corporate renewable energy buyers, grid technology providers, utilities, professional service firms, colleges & universities and allied nonprofit groups.

ACORE accomplishes much of its work by convening leaders across key constituencies, facilitating partnerships, educating senior officials on important policies, publishing research and analysis on pressing issues, and undertaking strategic outreach on the policies and financial structures essential to renewable energy growth.

The Partnership for Renewable Energy Finance (PREF) is the leading coalition of renewable sector financiers, developers, manufacturers and corporate consumers who unite to tackle market barriers and unlock capital for renewable energy. The Partnership for Renewable Integration and Market Expansion (PRIME) is an alliance of prominent, multi-technology renewable energy developers, investors and consumers that guides ACORE’s strategic efforts to expand the renewable energy marketplace.

Position Description

ACORE is looking for a Director of Events to oversee all operational aspects of the organization’s events and to provide strategic input on the organization’s event-related goals and objectives. The Director is responsible for bringing best-in-industry practices to ACORE’s conferences, networking receptions, dinners and panels throughout the year to advance ACORE’s mission and provide member value.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in developing and refining the long-term strategy and annual roadmap for ACORE events; provide recommendations to the Leadership team
  • Manage the full meeting planning cycle, from site sourcing to post-event budget reconciliation and follow up, for the organization’s conferences, events and networking activities
  • Define goals and key performance indicators for all events
  • Manage the site selection process, including negotiating contracts and sourcing outside vendors as needed
  • Serve as the main point of contact for member questions on ACORE events
  • Serve as the on-site leader for all ACORE events and main point of contact for member inquiries on events
  • Collaborate across ACORE to deliver on all aspects of event management, customer experience and financial performance
  • Develop and execute project plans for each event, define roles and responsibilities for event team members, and ensure regular project team meeting cadence
  • Work with the Vice President of Programs on conference program design and strategy with an eye toward delivering a high-quality attendee experience
  • Work with the Vice President of Business Development to execute events that cater to high-level members and create sponsorship opportunities
  • Work with the communications team and the digital media specialist to create branded event collateral including invitations, programs, signage, etc.
  • Work with the finance department to create event budgets and manage expenses within those budgets
  • Oversee run-of-show production to deliver a memorable customer experience
  • Mentor and coordinate the activities of junior events staff and interns

Requirements

  • Strong meeting planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage event administration, logistics, and finances
  • Commitment to providing outstanding customer service and building strong relationships with internal and external customers
  • A strong leader, collaborator, communicator, and decision-maker
  • Experience managing budgets and negotiating vendor contracts
  • Able to handle several, complex, fast-changing deadlines at once
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong attention detail
  • Experience interacting with C-Level professionals
  • Work during non-business hours and travel will occasionally be required

Educational/Work Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (CMP/CMM designation a plus)
  • 5+ years of event and conference planning experience as well as overall knowledge/experience of all aspects of conference production.
