Event Coordinator for 2019 SDG Summit
In the last four years since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, the Malaysian Government has been working closely with the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) on mainstreaming, implementation, data, monitoring and evaluation of the SDGs as well as in mobilizing resources and partnerships for the SDGs. Some of these initiatives include the development of the National SDG Roadmap, Malaysia Voluntary National Report to the 2017 High-level Political Forum, Phase 1 of a National SDG Progress Monitoring System (http://mysdg.dosm.gov.my/), Malaysia Report on National Evaluation Systems and Capacities for SDGs, National SDG Portal (https://mysdg.my/) and crowd-sourcing of solutions, funding and innovations towards SDG-related priorities in the country through the National SDG Solutions Platform.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs is therefore collaborating with the United Nations Country Team in Malaysia, supported by multi-stakeholder partners, to organise the inaugural SDG Summit for Malaysia in November this year with the following key objectives:
To review SDG progress in the country and share best practices;
To showcase commitments, pledges and/or contributions by Government, private sector and civil society towards attainment of the 2030 Agenda and SDGs;
To set in motion a whole of nation approach involving all parts of Government – ministries, agencies at federal, state and district levels; private sector and civil society;
To provide the enabling environment for preparation of the UNSDCF for Malaysia
The SDGs summit is composed of sessions that are designed around national priorities for Malaysia. Depending on the thematic responsibilities, UNDP has been identified as the lead agency in the design and organization of several of these sessions.
Under the direct supervision of the UNDP Resident Representative and in close collaboration with the management team and the focal point from the UN RCO, the consultant will:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support and work with each of the UNDP thematic leads in fine tuning the designing of the sessions;
- Support in identifying and reaching out to key national/international high-level speakers and moderators;
- Prepare detailed preamble and guidance note for speakers, panelists and moderators;
- Liaising with Government, private sector partners, and other stakeholders, including the RCO to ensure the development of the highest quality sessions for the event;
- Advise and coordinate a team of rapporteurs for the UNDP led sessions;
- Regularly update the RR and the management team on the progress and advise them on relevant timelines;
- To prepare a report of the 2019 SDG Summit for the UNDP Specific sessions.
Expected Outputs and Deliverables
Satisfactory outputs based on activities listed under scope of work.
Support the UNDP Resident Representative and management team in coordinating with all relevant stakeholders and the UNRCO for the event the content design, structure and organization of all UNDP-led sessions.
Identification and outreach of high-level national and international speakers and moderators.
Preparation of a detailed report of the 2019 SDG Summit for the UNDP-led sessions.
2 months (possibility of extension) 44 man days.
