Events Intern – Team Leader Waste Yard
Help us clean up Christchurch’s hottest events this Summer whilst gaining invaluable industry experience.
Total Waste Solutions is a successful and growing Canterbury business with a solid reputation of providing exceptional service and sustainable solutions.
As the preferred supplier of waste sorting and collection for Christchurch’s biggest events, our team are looking to divert more than 75% of waste from landfill through the implementation of composting and recycling solutions.
This upcoming season we are sorting waste for several popular events including The Edge NYE Party, Sparks, Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park, Electric Avenue, South Island Wine & Food Festival and The Great Kiwi Beer Festival.
As such, we are looking for an Intern to help us ensure the effective running of our waste yard and education at these events.
About the role
You will be our lead for our onsite waste sorting facility and will be responsible for ensuring a positive and efficient operation of the waste-yard and assets distributed at the event. With full training and support as well as a competitive hourly wage, key responsibilities include:
Ensuring a successful Pack-in and event infrastructure set up as agreed; Effective leadership of onsite logistics and grant group staffing during the event; Pre & Post Event support including event preparation, administration and post event cleaning.
Based on our events calendar this role will run from November 2019 to March 2020 and will involve mainly weekend work with variable hours of approximately 10-18 per week. We will confirm the events calendar and requirements ahead of time.
This role will suit someone who is passionate about sustainability and studying towards a career within the event, waste or environmental industries and looking to get some practical experience. Given the hands-on nature of this role, you won’t mind getting dirty – we are dealing with waste after all! Most important will be your can-do attitude and ability to problem solve and use your initiative to ensure efficient and proactive running of our waste sorting initiative at events.
