Event

Why we changed our name

This has been on the cards for some time, probably the best part of a year. We’ve gone through denial, acceptance and finally, action. Why change now? We are about to launch new products and services which mean that we will be more than a sustainable events agency, and we need a new name that encompasses the changes that we want to make. That’s the short answer.

So, what on earth was I thinking back in 2016, when I originally named the company “Muon Events”? I wanted energy use and climate change to be part of the conversation for those involved in running events. I plucked a name out of the air that had a tenuous link to energy and to my background in physics research, and which had a domain name and social media handles available. Job done, I got back to work. In hindsight, perhaps I was a little too lean in my approach.

As time went by, I started to pick up on some not-so-subtle signals that the name “Muon Events” had a few drawbacks. It was difficult for new clients to remember the name, because it did not have an obvious connection to sustainability. Some people thought we were a huge corporate brand, like Enron, which didn’t exactly thrill us. Clients and suppliers struggled to spell it without help, especially on the phone.

Introducing…

Which leads me to our new name, Legacy. Our tagline is “Make Everlasting Impressions.” I think it captures the essence of what we do, which is help organisations plan and run events in a positive and sustainable way, that carves out a better path to the future.

Our friends at Notepad helped us to come up with the new identity and after trying it out for a while, it feels right. Legacy represents our expanded focus and bold vision to change the event sector worldwide.

As a team, we feel fortunate to work with many different businesses, both in scale and sector, each with their own grand ambitions to change the world. In 2018, we helped a global crypto currency network socialise with their members and ran a 3 day, stakeholder engagement consultation disguised as a festival. We worked with universities, local authorities and European government partners and we helped audit one of the most famous sporting events in the world. We are really excited about being involved in planning the next generation of events and experiences. We hope that you will share what we are doing with your network and join us on Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

What next?

Well, we are an events agency, so the first step is to have a party.

Which you are invited to, by the way. It’s on 21st February 2019 in London. Book your place here.

We have a shiny new brand identity and website.

We will still be organising events for clients and also giving advice on how to make events more sustainable. That won’t change.

In the Spring, we will launch our new sustainable event marketplace; an online platform that will allow you to book suppliers for your events that we have verified.

We are also planning to provide training and auditing services, to ensure that we can reward those clients who are pushing the boundaries in terms of incorporating sustainable principles in their event planning.

As you can see, 2019 will be an exciting year for us. Before it all gets really hectic, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the friends and family who have supported us on our journey so far, it has been an exhilarating ride. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the clients who took a chance on us whilst we were finding our feet. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Watch this space.

Abena
Managing Director, Legacy
